Lyndhurst Primary School in Dukinfield, Tameside has 253 pupils and aims to provide the best possible education recognising that every child is special and has individual needs and abilities.

The Challenge

The school had two separate print device contracts in place that were unmanaged and expensive. The school was paying over 8.0p per print on one machine and there was no control measurements in place over printing.

The lack of account management meant that there was no accountability with regards to print, resulting in spiralling costs. The challenge was to carry out an audit with the aim of cutting costs and putting a managed print solution in place to have a positive impact across the whole school.

A Better Way

We used our expertise in managed print to make recommendations to the school and installed specialist software and equipment, which tracks and controls usage, while improving the print habits of all users, resulting in less wasted paper and fewer colour copies. Print management software also provides security features that validate print access through swipe cards and unique user names and passwords.

The systems we put in place have saved Lyndhurst Primary School a cumulative total of more than 25,000 sheets of A4 paper over the last 18 months and further reduced its impact on the environment by the equivalent of 17,000 bulb hours (manufacturing energy saved from not producing the paper), 342kg of C02 emissions (greenhouse gases released during production process) and 3.2 trees (amount of trees that would have been consumed to make the paper).

As well as reducing the environmental impact, the reduction in paper usage has resulted in savings of approximately £1,200 on print costs during the same period. In addition, the managed print solution is fully cost neutral.

On top of these savings, the school have saved a further £2,600 per year by consolidating all their photocopier contracts.

Comments

“We enlisted the help of ABS after becoming concerned about our spiralling printing costs and the impact on the environment through wasted print. The new system installed by ABS has made everyone mindful about what and why they are printing. It’s easy to follow, simple to use and certainly makes a difference.”
