Base 71. A safe space for young people
ABS. A Better Way, is proud to announce our support for the official opening of Barnsley Youth Zone, Base71, by donating the essential printing equipment required to help bring this incredible facility to life.
Base71 is part of OnSide Youth Zones, an outstanding organisation dedicated to building state-of-the-art youth centres in some of the country’s most deprived areas. These Youth Zones provide young people with opportunities, experiences, and support they might not otherwise have access to.
Reflecting on the typical youth centre of many people’s past – a grotty church hall with a broken table tennis table – it’s remarkable to see what Base71 has to offer. The facility boasts a huge climbing wall, rooftop football pitch, sensory room, music room, dance studio, fully equipped gym, boxing ring, beauty room, and much more. On top of these activities, the Youth Zone provides vital support services, including hot meals for just £1, showers, interview preparation with clothing if needed, and most importantly, a safe, inclusive space where young people can feel inspired, challenged, and supported.
At ABS. A Better Way., supporting initiatives like Base71 is part of our wider commitment to giving back to our local communities through the ABS Foundation. Through the Foundation, we work with a variety of local charities and community projects to make a real difference in people’s lives, helping young people and families thrive.
The impact of Base71 cannot be overstated. It gives thousands of young people the chance to participate in activities that boost health, wellbeing, confidence, and personal growth – experiences they might never have had otherwise.
We encourage everyone to explore the fantastic work of OnSide Youth Zones and support any local Youth Zones in your area. To the incredible team at Base71, and especially Holly Hodgson, we wish you every success and look forward to seeing the continued positive impact on the young people of Barnsley.
