ABS are proud to champion Halifax as the UK Town of Culture 2028
Our connection to Halifax runs deep. For over 35 years, ABS has had strong links to the town, watching it evolve while staying true to its character. Over the decades, we’ve seen first-hand the passion, resilience, and creativity that define Halifax and its people, and it’s this unique spirit that makes it such a strong contender for this national title.
So, why Halifax?
This is a town rich in history and architectural beauty. From the iconic Piece Hall to its historic mills and cobbled streets, Halifax tells a story at every turn. Its heritage is not just preserved, it’s celebrated and brought to life in ways that continue to inspire both residents and visitors alike.
A perfect example of this is the Piece Hall itself. Once a hub of the textile trade, it has been transformed into a world-class cultural venue. Today, it hosts an incredible programme of live music and events, attracting internationally renowned artists and audiences from across the UK and beyond. These concerts have firmly placed Halifax on the cultural map, proving that it can stand shoulder to shoulder with major cities when it comes to live entertainment.
But while its architecture and venues are impressive, it’s the people who truly make Halifax special.
The town is home to a thriving community of artists, performers, and local groups who bring energy, creativity, and pride to everything they do. Their work turns spaces into experiences and ensures that culture in Halifax is not just something to observe, but something to be part of.
This is already being demonstrated through initiatives like CultureDale, which have delivered more than 900 events, engaged over 200,000 participants, and generated an impressive £50 million economic boost for the area. These achievements highlight the scale of Halifax’s cultural ambition and its ability to create meaningful impact.
Now, imagine what could be achieved if Halifax became the UK’s first Town of Culture.
This opportunity would not only celebrate the town’s rich history and creative energy but also provide a platform to build on its success, supporting local talent, attracting new visitors, and strengthening the local economy even further.
Halifax is more than deserving of this title. It is a place where past and present come together, where creativity thrives, and where community is at the heart of everything.
At ABS, we’re proud to support Halifax’s bid, and we believe it’s time the rest of the UK sees what makes this town so special.
Let’s show the UK why Halifax truly is a town of culture.
