ABS Celebrates Andrew’s 25 Year Anniversary!
What a celebration! Our wonderful Field Service Engineer Andrew, has been with ABS for 25 years. Here, he will give you some insights to his role at ABS and life outside of work.

-
Tell us a bit about yourself and your role within ABS.
I am a Field Service Engineer responsible for servicing and repairing Samsung, Develop, Ricoh & HP photocopiers and printers. I have also trained to deal with any technical queries our customers may have with managed print software and on remote fixing.
-
How has the world of printers and photocopiers changed since you began?
When I started work in this industry there was no such thing as a managed print solution, it was just copying and a little bit of B&W printing. Now, there are so many different manufactures and technology advancements which even means that photocopiers can act as servers and computers.
-
What is the funniest thing that’s happened to you in your years at ABS?
I was once locked in a high school in Huddersfield! I arrived to complete a new machine installation and on trying to leave I could not open the main entrance door, and no-one was around.
20 minutes later I heard sirens and when I looked through the window, there were six vehicles outside waiting for me.
After I gave the police my details (through the window), I had to wait for the caretaker to turn up and let me out.
-
What do you find most challenging about the world of printers, photocopiers and IT?
The biggest challenge is making sure that each photocopier installation is unique for each customer. There are so many different ways that organisations like to print and with ever-changing technology this becomes more of a complex process.
-
What tools do you find indispensable for accomplishing your day to day tasks?
Tools that I can’t live without include my laptop for viewing machine parts and service manuals along with my tool case to complete machine repairs.
-
What topics are you personally curious about?
The environment and how we can all live more sustainably.
-
Who are your biggest influences and who do you admire the most?
My biggest influences are my parents. I admire them because they’re honest and true to themselves.
-
What’s your favourite thing to do when you’re not working?
I really enjoy spending time with my three daughters and granddaughters.
-
What’s the best thing about your job?
I love meeting new people and making a difference in their working life by repairing or installing new innovative printing products.
-
What animal would you be and why?
I would be a monkey as they’re cute and cheeky!
Thank you, Andrew, for bringing hard work and nothing but smiles and good energy to ABS, we look forward to many more years!
